THE PLAYER'S Championship The
PGA Tour's Fifth Major The PGA TOUR:
Arrives at Sawgrass at the perfect time each
year. One of the reasons THE PLAYERS Championship is the most exciting tournament on the
PGA TOUR each season up to that point, is that it is the first tournament of the year to
draw all the top players. They send the signal the official season begins at Sawgrass.
There are winners of THE PLAYERS Championship besides the player with the lowest score.
The presence of the top players of the game raises approximately $1500,000 from each
year's event, which goes to more than 40 charities in the Jacksonville area.
THE PLAYERS
Championship"
The Players Championship has raised more than $7 million
for charity since the first tournament here in 1977. Perhaps another reason the world's
top golfers enter THE PLAYERS Championship is that the Stadium Course was the first built
specifically for them. The first PLAYERS Championship tournament was held on the Stadium
Course in 1982, two years after it opened. Of one thing we can be certain, the course will
be in excellent condition, and ready to challenge the best. Spectators will have the
opportunity to watch the tournament on one of the few golf courses designed for them as
well as the contestants, which makes The Stadium Club at Sawgrass a very special place.
Kings are crowned because they inherited the title. Is a lasting star created by a single accomplishment? Was ever a legend created by one event? True stars and legends are made from repeated outstanding performances and triumphs. Was a tournament a "major" after one event? No, but stay tuned.
